Liverpool’s blockbuster signing of the summer, Darwin Nunez has been awarded Liga Portugal’s Player of the Year award for his efforts in the Portuguese top-flight last season.

Nunez became one of Europe’s hottest properties last season, after impressive UEFA Champions League outings for Benfica which saw him net against Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool.

Nunez scored 34 times in 41 appearances across all competitions earning him a big-money move to Anfield at the start of this summer’s transfer window.

Nunez joins a host of elite names who have previously won Liga Portugal’s Player of the Year award; Hulk, David Luiz, Bruno Fernandes and Nemanja Matic have all been crowned with the end-of-season prize.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Nunez can settle into life in the Premier League and whether he’ll continue his goalscoring exploits from the off in a Red shirt.

With Sadio Mane leaving the club to join Bayern Munich, Nunez will undoubtedly have the game time and opportunity to do so; the Anfield faithful will have their fingers crossed for the Uruguayan heading into the new campaign.

The thought of a Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and a Darwin Nunez frontline is tantalising; the new season promises to be an exciting one, to say the least.
