Former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has confirmed his return to his boyhood club Nacional 16 years after leaving the Urguyuan team.

Suarez has enjoyed a 17-year-long career so far, three of which he spent on Merseyside, becoming one of the club’s greatest ever talents.

Liverpool signed Suarez for £22.8 million back in 2011, during a tough period, where trophies were few and far between.

This made Suarez’s 82 goals in 133 games even more impressive when you consider the players he had around him at the time.

Suarez made the switch to Barcelona for £75 million from Liverpool and then to Atletico Madrid, where he has been playing his football until now.

The 35-year-old forward then became a free agent this summer and there were rumours aplenty of where his next club would be, with Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund being touted as possible destinations.

Nevertheless, yesterday Suarez announced he would be returning to his boyhood team, stating the opportunity was ‘impossible to waste.’

Nacional plays their football in the Uruguayan Primera Division; despite his best years behind him, it will be interesting to see how Suarez fares in a less competitive league.
