Many Liverpool fans were unhappy with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance during his side’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Reds made hard work of their affair with Dean Smith’s relegation-battling side but eventually got over the line.

It took until after the break for Liverpool to break the deadlock, as Sadio Mane and Curtis Jones made sure the points were safe and kept them on track towards breaking Manchester City’s points record.

But despite this, the Anfield faithful took exception to Alexander-Arnold’s showing, even having played a huge part in the opening goal.

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold become the next Liverpool captain?

Yes

No

Per Sofascore, the England international lost possession 23 times and did not make any tackles or interceptions, which may explain the fans’ frustrations towards him during elements of the game.

With this in mind, supporters were not impressed with Alexander-Arnold’s outing and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he was “barely there”, while others described him as “awful” and in “poor form”.
