With the end of the season imminent, Liverpool have one last match to play; the UEFA Champions League final. Should the Reds triumph over Real Madrid in Paris on Saturday, they will have collected three trophies this term.

Despite narrowly losing out to Manchester City in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp has led his side closer to an unprecedented quadruple than any team to come before and already clinched both domestic cups.

In honour of his achievements this season, Klopp was announced as winner of both the Sir Alex Ferguson trophy and the Premier League Manager of the Year award at the League Managers Association Awards last night.

The Sir Alex Ferguson trophy is presented to the LMA manager of the year as voted for by managers from all 92 clubs in the Premier League and Football League, and national team bosses from within the English Football Association.

The Premier League Manager of the Year award is issued following a combination of public votes with those of a panel of football experts. The German took the prize ahead of a shortlist including Thomas Frank (Brentford), Eddie Howe (Newcastle United), Patrick Vieira (Crystal Palace), and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City).

Klopp also won both gongs at the conclusion of the 2019/20 season and Liverpool’s league title winning campaign.

In handing over his namesake trophy to Klopp yesterday, Sir Alex Ferguson jokingly exclaimed on stage –

“This is agony, absolute agony!”

The 54-year-old Liverpool boss recognised the efforts of his backroom staff during his acceptance speech –

“When you win a prize like this you are either a genius or you have the best coaching staff in the world – and I am here with all of my coaching staff; they know how much I appreciate them.”
