Darwin Nunez returns to Liverpool with a point to prove

|

Darwin Nunez scored twice as Liverpool beat AC Milan 4-1 in their final game at the Dubai Super Cup.

Mohamed Salah and Thiago Alcantara also got their name on the scoresheet, to put the Reds 2-1 up at half time.

It was Nunez’s first appearance since returning to club duties following Uruguay’s shock group stage exit in the Qatar World Cup.

The 23-year-old really struggled to make a proper impact on the international stage, leaving many fans worried that his confidence could’ve been knocked again.

Nunez showed no signs of any lack of confidence but instead picked up from where he left off before the World Cup, performing extremely well.

After coming on as a substitute in the 59th minute, it took a bit of time for Nunez to really pick up the pace.

But that is exactly what he did in the 82nd minute as he latched onto a fantastic through ball by 17-year-old, Bobby Clark, before slotting the ball coolly past the Milan keeper.

Just six minutes later, the striker tapped home his second of the game after being set up by another 17-year-old, Ben Doak.

Nunez then went on to score his penalty in the pointless penalty shootout at the end of the game, but admittedly the goalkeeper had an absolute nightmare.

Liverpool fans and Jurgen Klopp will be buzzing to see Nunez perform the way he did yesterday, he really looks determined to prove all of his critics wrong.

I can’t wait to see the Reds back in competitive action and hopefully, we have a better end to the season than the start, but surely that can’t be heard, can it?
