A few Reds supporters have been reacting on social media to reports by the Liverpool Echo, suggesting the Anfield outfit plan to keep young striker Liam Millar on Merseyside next season.

Millar has been rarely-seen at Anfield since joining Liverpool’s academy from Fulham in 2016, with the Canada international only given minutes in one first-team fixture.

The 20-year-old’s senior Reds debut, and only appearance to date, came in February’s FA Cup Fourth Round meeting with League One Shrewsbury, in which he featured for 82 minutes before being replaced without scoring.

Toronto-born Millar had spent the second half of last season and the first half of the current campaign on loan with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, where he managed 36 appearances, scored twice and assisted three goals but only started 16 of his outings.

His slack output and involvement has not left Millar without prying eyes considering his services, with the Echo noting that the eight-cap senior international has previously attracted interest from Championship and Bundesliga sides.

Liverpool have previously rejected permanent offers for Millar, too, and are believed to be planning on seeing how he fares in Jurgen Klopp’s plans next season, given the forward – who is capable of playing across the frontline – is under contract until 2022.

News that Millar is set for a chance in the first-team next term has left some Liverpool fans unsure of how to react, with some unclear of what the youngster will offer or whether this is the reason why the club opted against signing Timo Werner.

Millar had been free-scoring in Liverpool’s Under 18s earlier in his career with 17 goals in 37 appearances, but the 5 ft 9 forward struggled to replicate that form in the U23s with just four goals to his name from 24 outings across all competitions.

Only scoring twice during his two loan spells at Kilmarnock and failing to break into the senior Liverpool side more often has left some Reds supporters feeling it would be in the club’s best interest if the Canadian is sold this summer.

Not all Liverpool fans are keen to see the back of Millar, as some believe what would be best for the player and club would be another loan spell away from Anfield so that he can further tune his game before being thrust under the spotlight on Merseyside.
