How Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejuvenated his season

|

Although Liverpool’s team performances have been frustrating, Trent Alexander-Arnold has really hit the ground running since his return from the World Cup.

The full-back looks like a completely different player compared to before the international break, where he hadn’t made a single assist in the Premier League in fourteen games.

Since then, Trent has been back to his best both offensively and defensively despite the poor performances from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The 24-year-old started off his return with a world-class outside of the foot pass to set up Mohamed Salah’s goal against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, before forcing Leicester defender Wout Faes to hook the ball into his own net in the following game.

Against Brentford, Trent’s sublime left-footed cross landed perfectly on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s head to give the Reds a consolation goal.

Then against Wolves on Saturday, the defender plucked a pinpoint pass onto the run of Darwin Nunez who slotted the ball past the keeper.

But it’s not just his attacking play and passing that has improved, his defending has grown massively.

His positioning and confidence in one-on-one situations looks as good as it ever has been, and he’s doing it on a consistent basis.

In a time where Jurgen Klopp’s side is lacking both creativity and defensive stability, expect Trent Alexander-Arnold to play a huge part in any chance of turning this season’s fortunes around.
