Mohamed Salah is being wrongly criticised – Opinion

|

Critics have circled around Mohamed Salah this season as Liverpool fall behind the rest of their top six rivals, currently sitting 9th in the Premier League.

It is without doubt that the Egyptian is suffering as a victim of his own success, with expectations through the roof season after season.

Despite being labelled as being poor this season, Mohamed Salah sits on nine goal contributions in eleven appearances this season.

Compare this to Harry Kane on eight goal contributions, Gabriel Jesus also on eight, Alexander Mitrovic on six and Marcus Rashford with five. All of which have been labelled as starting the season on fire.

In fact, the only Premier League players with more goal contributions in all competitions than the Liverpool forward is Erling Haaland, who currently sits on 20 (the guy’s a robot) and Kevin De Bruyne on 12.

The 30-year-old’s overall game has improved once more also, with extremely impressive playmaking stats. Salah sits 6th in the Premier League for key passes with 16, whilst also completing 154 passes into the final third and 38 passes into the box.

All of these factors become more impressive when you consider how passive and blunt Liverpool have been as a team this season, apart from the 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth which stands out as an anomaly.

I’m sure Klopp will be pleased with the hard work and performances from Salah so far, the goals will start to come along with more creative performances from the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Luis Diaz etc.

The Egyptian King will be looking forward to facing Arsenal on Sunday, which is a side he normally excels against, scoring eight goals and setting up four for his teammates in eleven appearances against the Gunners.
