29-year-old Shanice van de Sanden has returned to Liverpool FC Women ahead of the club’s return to the WSL for the 2022/2023 season.

The Dutch winger was a huge fan favourite during her first stint on Merseyside but left the club in 2017 joining Lyon, lifting league titles and a Women’s Champions League.

Van de Sanden then moved to Germany, enjoying a fruitful time with VFL Wolfsburg, but the forward is glad to be back and challenging for titles on Merseyside.

Speaking to Liverpool’s Official Club Website, the winger spoke of her excitement to get the league season underway and the chance to play under the guidance of head coach Matt Beard.

‘It feels amazing. For sure Liverpool is my favourite club in England and being back in Liverpool, seeing the girls and meeting the coach, this means a lot to me.’

‘In my head I was already waiting. I was following them everywhere, even if I wasn’t planning to go back, I was just following the games and everything. Coming back, it’s crazy and the ambition this club has means a lot to me and a lot has changed since I left.’

The winger spoke about how much the Merseyside club means to her and the unfinished business she has at the club.

‘It does mean a lot to me. Even when I was playing for Lyon or Wolfsburg, I was still following the Liverpool women’s team and that’s mainly because it is in my heart. I really love the girls here and seeing how they work for each other, they fight for each other, they fight for the coach, and that’s the feeling I got from outside the team. Now I’m here I have still the same feelings so I’m very happy that I’ve signed for Liverpool.’
