Liverpool begin their FA Cup journey against Wolves

|

Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup Third Round, as they look to lift the trophy for the second year on the bounce.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his side can bounce back from their awful performance against Brentford in the Premier League on Monday, losing 3-1.

Before that though, Liverpool were starting to find some good form- winning four games on the bounce against Tottenham, Southampton, Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Wolves come into this one in a patchy run of form, leaving them sat 19th in the Premier League table just two points above Southampton at the bottom.

Lopetegui’s side has just one win in their last five games, with a 2-1 win away to Everton on Boxing Day being their standout performances.

Team News:

Liverpool could have seven players missing for this one with Virgil Van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, James Milner and Arthur Melo all definitely ruled out of this one with long-term injuries.

Naby Keita wasn’t pictured in first-team training on Thursday, raising question marks over his fitness once again.

Curtis Jones is also a doubt for this game, with the midfielder not featuring since before the World Cup break.

Wolves could be without Daniel Podence for their trip to Anfield, who has been their most prolific goalscorer in recent weeks, after he was substituted at half-time in their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last time out.

Pedro Neto, Sasa Kalajdzic and Boubacar Traore are all definitely ruled out for this one with longer term injuries.

Prediction:

This game is a hard one to predict and it largely depends on how strong the lineup from each side is.

I’m going to back a Liverpool win, but I think Wolves will make things hard for the Reds.

Liverpool 2-1 Wolves- Firmino, Gakpo goalscorers.
