Liverpool: Stats Preview 17/18 – West Brom (Away)

Another Premier League outing is fast approaching for Liverpool FC and, as per usual, we’ve been trawling the record books to bring you all the facts, figures and statistics you need to know about it.

The Reds will need to put any thoughts of Tuesday night’s looming Champions League semi-final first leg with Roma to one side when they visit the Hawthorns for a Saturday lunchtime kick-off that could put the final nail in the hosts’ relegation coffin.

Here’s what caught our eye:

• Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion have contested 150 competitive matches during their respective histories with Liverpool leading overall courtesy of 68 wins to 39 defeats and 43 draws (source: 11v11.com).
• Although they lost at home to the Baggies in the FA Cup earlier this season, Liverpool are on a nine-match unbeaten run against them in the league (W4, D5).
• West Brom have failed to score in seven of their 11 Premier League home games against the Reds.
• Liverpool have lost only two of their last 25 Premier League fixtures and have scored at least two goals in 14 of the last 17.
• One of those defeats was against Swansea City in January, who, like West Brom, were bottom of the table at kick-off. The last time the Merseysiders lost two games against bottom placed sides in the same season was in 2010/11 (Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United).
• West Brom have failed to win 15 of their last 16 home Premier League matches.
• Their shock 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday was their first in any competition, home or away, since winning 3-2 at Anfield in January. The 10 matches in between yielded one draw and nine defeats.
• The Midlanders are the top-flight’s joint lowest scorers alongside Swansea City and Huddersfield Town (27).
• Mohamed Salah (30) is just one goal away from equalling Luis Suarez’s club record Premier League season tally of 31 set in 2013/14.
• Roberto Firmino has been directly involved in four goals in his last four games vs. West Brom in all competitions (two goals, two assists), including both scoring and assisting in the recent FA Cup defeat.
