Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson to start against Wales

|

Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson, is set to start for England in their final group stage game against Wales on Tuesday night, according to The Daily Mail.

The 32-year-old is reported to be the replacement for Liverpool transfer target, Jude Bellingham, despite his recent standout performances for the Three Lions.

Henderson replaced Bellingham from the bench in the 69th minute of England’s 0-0 draw against USA on Friday and manager Gareth Southgate is expected to follow the same thought process for the Wales game.

If correct, this would mean that the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Conor Gallagher will be limited to a substitute appearance at the most.

The midfielder’s Liverpool teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is set to miss out on Southgate’s starting lineup once again with Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Manchester City’s Kyle Walker all being ahead of Trent in the pecking order, despite the latter severely lacking fitness.

It’s a shame for Trent as if used correctly, the full-back can control and dictate the game completely. Imagine the crosses he would put in for the likes of Harry Kane.

Hopefully Henderson can put in a solid performance and prove to people why Jurgen Klopp still has faith in the midfielder and can provide himself with some confidence for when he returns to domestic action with Liverpool.
