Despite reports breaking on Sunday that Liverpool are interested in a move for Porto midfielder Otavio, top transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested otherwise.
The Reds have been linked with the midfielder for a fair few years now, with reports suggesting Jurgen Klopp had revived the club’s interest in the 27-year-old.
Nevertheless, Romano took to his Twitter account to claim the reports coming from Portugal were far off the mark and also shut down another transfer rumour involving a former Liverpool midfielder.
Both Liverpool and Porto deny all the stories about Otávio deal. There are no negotiations ongoing – also, the release clause is €40m and not €60m. 🔴 #LFC
Otávio and Wijnaldum are not in the list for Liverpool as things stand – still long market, but no talks for these two.

The top transfer specialist claims that as things stand the Reds are not in contention to sign Otavio or former midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, however, there is still plenty of time in the market for things to change.
The links to Otavio were certainly odd and with Liverpool already spending big on Luis Diaz in January, a player who is very similar to the Portuguese international, the claims always seemed questionable.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Merseyside club move for Otavio if Mohamed Salah leaves the club next summer, so it’s definitely a transfer story to keep your eye on in 2023.
