Premier League clubs dealt a blow in pursuit of World Cup star

|

Liverpool are one of several clubs to have been dealt a blow in their rumoured pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat.

The midfielder has been a revelation for Morocco so far in the World Cup starting at the base of the midfield in all four games so far.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old along with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Newcastle United.

However, news today suggest that a move for the Fiorentina man may not be as simple as many thought to begin with.

Fiorentina are set to double Amrabat’s wages to roughly £60,000 in an attempt to defuse any speculation from the Premier League clubs, according to CorriereDelloSport.

The contract would also see his expirary date extend past the current figure of June 2024 to instead June 2027, which automatically makes the deal a harder one to pull of for any club.

However, this move from the Italian side isn’t likely to be enough to fend off the interest with most of England’s top clubs being able to afford that sort of salary anyways.

Also, for the likes of Liverpool and Spurs, the proposition of Champions League football is highly likely which Amrabat could quite easily have his head turned towards.

I believe this could be a really strong signing for the Reds, as we have seen this season with Fabinho’s performances why having proper competition for places in the lineup is essential.
