Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sporting CP star midfielder Matheus Nunes for months now with various reports claiming the Reds were ready to make a bid.

Reports of a move intensified last week after Liverpool’s star midfielder Thiago Alcantara suffered an injury in the teams opening Premier League game of the season.

Nevertheless, according to the Portuguese news outlet, A Bola, Liverpool are ready to quit their pursuit of the talented Sporting star.

The report claims that Liverpool did indeed make an approach for Nunes and were testing the waters on what fee they could convince Sporting to sell the midfielder at.

However, despite initial interest, the Liverpool hierarchy chose against making a concrete offer for the Portugal international.

It’s not clear why Liverpool have chosen against making a bid for Nunes, a player and talent who would certainly benefit the team with their growing injury list.

Nunes has received multiple offers from English clubs, although, it’s thought that he is waiting out for a club that can give him Champions League football.

Sporting CP have placed a €50m fee on Nunes and are reportedly unwilling to listen to any offers below this price.
