Team News: Liverpool v Southampton

|

Liverpool host Southampton in the Premier League in their final game before the Qatar World Cup begins next weekend.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game (Liverpool FC Youtube Channel), Jurgen Klopp gave the latest on some of his squad’s injuries:

Available:

Vice-captain, James Milner, is expected to be available for selection after recovering from a concussion picked up in Liverpool’s victory against Napoli last week.

Klopp confirmed: “Millie is back in training today.”

Doubts:

Liverpool duo, Naby Keita and Joel Matip, have both returned to the training pitch but are still unlikely to feature in Saturday’s game. Expect them to be on the bench at the most.

On Keita, Klopp confirmed: “Naby is out running.”

Before speaking on Matip: “Joel trained with us, he was in pretty much the whole session but the last bit he didn’t do.”

Hopefully the duo can remain fit throughout the international break and be available for selection upon the Reds’ return to domestic action in December.

Ruled out:

Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Arthur Melo will all remain out until after the World Cup at least. The Liverpool boss offered no update on Jota and Arthur, meaning they aren’t close to returning to full fitness.

However, the German did offer an update on the progress of Luis Diaz, saying: “Lucho is back on the pitch and running.”

The opposition:

Southampton’s new boss, Nathan Jones, will be without Kyle Walker-Peters and Tino Livramento in his opening game in charge of the Saints, who currently sit 18th in the Premier League.

Score prediction- Liverpool 3-0 Southampton
