Liverpool’s Thiago left out of Spain World Cup squad

Liverpool midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, has been left out of Spain’s World Cup squad ahead of the upcoming Qatar World Cup starting later this month.

Spanish national team manager, Luis Enrique, opted against taking the world-class midfielder as the squad was announced on the team’s official website earlier today. (Spain National Team’s Official website)

However, Thiago Alcantara wasn’t the only talented and experienced veteran left out of Enrique’s 26-man squad, with PSG’s Sergio Ramos also being denied a seat on the plane.

Rather than take the 31-year-old midfielder, Enrique decided to take the following midfielders instead:

Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Carlos Soler (Paris Saint-Germain), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Rodri (Manchester City), Marcos Llorente (Atletico Madrid), Gavi (Barcelona), Pedri (Barcelona).

In my opinion, there’s some baffling decisions in there which perhaps nods towards Enrique’s past job managing at Barcelona.

No one can convince me that right now Sergio Busquets is more capable than Thiago Alcantara in contributing towards Spain’s chances of winning the competition.

To me, it comes as a real shock. I get that countries like Spain pride themselves on the production and representation of some of Europe’s finest young talents, but leaving Thiago at home could end up being a costly mistake.
