Liverpool v Southampton: Starting XI Prediction

|

Liverpool host Southampton in their final game before the Qatar World Cup begins next weekend. Here’s how we think Jurgen Klopp will lineup his side at Anfield:

Goalkeeper- Alisson

Despite Caoimhin Kelleher’s heroics against Derby County during the week, Alisson will come back into the starting lineup against Southampton with a clean sheet and three points essential as we head into the international break.

Defence- Trent, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson

Despite call ups for three of the back four, I think Klopp will go full strength as we cannot afford to drop any more points. The four have all been in a spell of improved form before getting a rest during the week, so I expect that to continue.

Midfield- Elliott, Fabinho, Thiago

I think Jordan Henderson is one player we can afford to rest before the World Cup as Harvey Elliott has been superb this season. I expect Fabinho and Thiago to return to the starting lineup after an improved performance against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Forwards- Salah, Firmino, Nunez

The front three that worked together so well last weekend will link up together one last time before the World Cup. With Egypt not being in the World Cup, Salah can afford to play one more game before a well-deserved rest. The same applies for Firmino following his snub from Brazil. Whilst Nunez will be looking to head into the World Cup on the best form possible.

Bench- Kelleher, Gomez, Matip, Tsimikas, Milner, Henderson, Jones, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Carvalho.
