Seven missing for Liverpool’s trip to Brighton

|

Liverpool will be without seven first-team players when they travel to Brighton in the FA Cup Fourth Round on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed the news in his pre-match press conference, where he gave an update on his possible options in terms of team selection at the weekend.

Virgil Van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Arthur Melo, Fabio Carvalho and Nathaniel Phillips will all miss Sunday’s game.

Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are both fully fit and expected to start after missing the last few games with minor issues.

Klopp confirmed that Carvalho and Phillips are only out with minor issues so should only miss one game.

After them, Van Dijk, Firmino and Jota will all be the next players to return and will only be out for another couple of weeks.”

Arthur Melo will be back in 2-3 weeks after being sidelined since late September with a major injury.

Luis Diaz will take longer, with the Colombian expected to be back in training around March time according to Neil Jones.

These injuries leave Klopp with a selection headache ahead of Sunday’s game, with the likes of Bobby Clark taking part in first-team training, which could suggest he could take Carvalho’s place in the matchday squad.
