Raheem Sterling ‘wanted to return to Liverpool’

|

Chelsea forward, Raheem Sterling, wanted to return to Liverpool in the summer but Jurgen Klopp wasn’t interested in the winger, according to Sam Lee of The Athletic.

The 28-year-old left Manchester City in the summer, along with Gabriel Jesus and Olexander Zinchenko due to a lack of game-time under Pep Guardiola.

Sterling eventually moved to Chelsea, but reportedly wanted to return to Merseyside to try and fill the boots of Sadio Mane who had just left to join Bayern Munich.

The forward left Liverpool to join Manchester City in 2015, in a deal with £49million, which hasn’t sat well with the Liverpool supporters ever since.

Other former players like Philippe Coutinho, Gini Wijnaldum and Emre Can have all been linked with a return to the club but Klopp has never seemed to keen on the idea and it seems to be the same here.

The England international has struggled to find the form that made him so valued at the Etihad, scoring just four goals since his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, with Chelsea currently sat 10th in the Premier League.

It certainly would’ve been interesting to see what Sterling could’ve offered at Anfield, with himself and Mane always being the two best left-wingers in the Premier League along with Heung-Min Son over recent years.
