Lots of Liverpool supporters have been reacting on social media after German football expert Raphael Honigstein claimed Bayern Munich are bracing themselves for official offers for Thiago Alcantara.

Honigstein, while speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk Podcast, claimed Bayern have conceded that Thiago will likely leave the Bundesliga giants this summer after turning down a new contract at the Allianz Arena.

Thiago had been presented with new terms to extend his spell in Bavaria but had a change of heart and opted to decline the proposed deal, while Honigstein suggests Bayern believe that the Spanish midfielder has already reached an agreement with another side.

It is not suggested as to whom Thiago has potentially reached an agreement with to join in the summer window, though Liverpool have been widely claimed to be courting the former FC Barcelona man.

Bayern are reportedly open to selling the 29-year-old this summer should they receive an official approach, with claims in Germany that Thiago has been made available for €30m (£27m) and that he already sees his future at Anfield.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will offer Bayern their €30m asking price, though Reds supporters on social media are reacting sceptically to Honigstein’s claims as they feel he has offered nothing new and that Fenway Sports Group are causing delays in a deal being made as they refuse to present the funds needed.

Other Liverpool fans are slightly more optimistic, with some of the belief that FSG and the Reds hierarchy will step up negotiations with Bayern Munich once this season’s Champions League campaign has concluded.

While Liverpool fell out of the UEFA competition to Atletico Madrid before the season was postponed, Bayern remain in the tournament and will play their Round of 16 Second Leg tie with Chelsea on August 8 holding a 3-0 lead.

Optimism from some fans has been met with further apprehension from others, with a few supporters firmly of the belief that no matter what happens over the coming weeks, Thiago will not be at Anfield next season.
