Liverpool missed out on signing Ligue 1 breakout star Aurelien Tchouameni after the midfielder opted for a move to La Liga to join Spanish champions Real Madrid.

Now preparations are underway to find an alternative to the Frenchman, with the club’s hierarchy highlighting the midfield as an area to improve during this summer’s transfer window.

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré has been underlined as a potential candidate to take over the role that Tchouameni was meant to provide Jurgen Klopp’s team with next season.

According to the Daily Mail, the Ivory Coast international believes he will leave the Eredivisie this summer and join a club in the Premier League.

The report suggests Liverpool are one of several Premier League teams interested in capturing the defensive midfielder’s signature, alongside Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle.

It’s the depth to Liverpool’s squad that the Ivorian would bring which is his most appealing trait. The 24-year-old featured for PSV 49 times last season, only missing four matches through injury and illness.

Another string to his bow when you consider how many times the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho suffered from injuries throughout last season.

Now, with the news of Liverpool launching a club-record bid for Benfica forward Darwin Nunez today, Sangare’s reported fee of £30 million makes him all the more an appealing prospect for the Red’s owners FSG.
