Liverpool are looking to tie down fan favourite defender Joe Gomez to a new contract this summer with the club believing his best days are still to come.

Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton in 2015 as has a relatively unknown talent and has since become one of the club’s most solid squad options, making 142 appearances for the Reds.

The England international has been in and out of Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI with the German tactician preferring a Virgil Van Djik and Joel Matip partnership for the 2021/2022 season.

Gomez has had an unfortunate injury-plagued career so far and this hasn’t helped his push for consistent first-team action, however, he enjoyed a solid 2019/2020 campaign as Van Djik’s partner where he showed his true potential.

Gomez isn’t short of admirers in the Premier League, which has probably pushed the Merseyside club into securing him a new deal.

Football Insider reported earlier in the season that the 25-year-old was being eyed up by Steven Gerrard, to become part of his Villian revolution at Villa Park.

Nevertheless, the defender seems keen to continue his career at Anfield and is willing to fight for his place as Liverpool’s go-to centre-back partner for Virgil Van Djik.

Fans will be pleased to see this love story continue, Gomez gives his all for Liverpool every time he puts on the red shirt and he is far too good of a talent to let go to another Premier League club.
