Liverpool’s summer transfer window business is well and truly underway after news broke this morning that they have been given a price for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez; a club-record £85 million.

Ahead of the inevitable departure of Sadio Mane, Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his squad and Nunez is certainly at the forefront of his plans to do so.

The impressive Benfica forward has had an eye-catching campaign, scoring 34 goals in 41 appearances for the Portuguese side, also scoring home and away against Liverpool in the Uefa Champions League.

Benfica’s resolve will be tested as reports suggest Nunez is just as keen on a move to Anfield as the Reds are on bringing him there.

Manchester United have also been fondly following the career of Nunez and were said to be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford, however, the Uruguayan has been adamant that he wants Champions League football next season.

Nunez looks set to spearhead Liverpool’s new-look attack under Jurgen Klopp for the coming seasons; with mainstay Mane set to join Munich and Mohamed Salah’s contract negotiations far from finished, this will be music to the ears of the Anfield faithful.
