Liverpool signed Spanish shot-stopper Adrian in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer from West Ham as cover for their Brazilian No.1 Alisson – with his signing coming as a really great bit of business at the time.

The Reds had got their hands on a Premier League goalkeeper with more than 5 seasons of experience in the English game for not a single penny as their cover and he found himself stuck in the deep end almost instantly with his signing coming just after an injury to Alisson at the start of our Premier League-winning campaign.

Adrian has made 23 appearances in all competitions during his one and a half years on Merseyside and has been under fire at times for no producing the quality of performances that had been expected of him and after just 13 league appearances for the club, he has managed to make three mistakes that have led to goals.

Did Liverpool have a successful January window?

No

The news was confirmed by The Athletic’s James Pearce in a recent article discussing the fringe players that are likely to leave and the ones that are likely to stay and try and fight for a place ahead of the summer – with Adrian being one of the former.

Youngster Caoimhín Kelleher has proved himself when coming through the ranks of the Liverpool academy and this season earned the No.2 spot behind Alisson after some impressive appearances in both the Premier League and Champions League which has all but left Adrian’s future at the club in the dust.

His future has been in doubt for some time now but Pearce’s comments make me more than certain that he will depart the club when his contract expires in June – and I wish him the best of luck! Despite the ups and downs, he played a big part in our title win last season after having to play 11 games over the course of our 38 Premier League games with him winning every one – and I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.
