Alisson features as Brazil progress in the World Cup

|

Alisson returned to between the sticks to put in a fantastic display as Brazil defeated South Korea 4-1 in the World Cup last 16.

Fabinho was an unused substitute in the game, as the midfielder continues to struggle to find any form or consistency- an issue the Brazilian has had all season at Liverpool.

Goals from Vinicius Junior, Neymar Jr, Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta were enough to see the side through despite Paik Seung-ho’s second half consolation goal.

The victory means the South Americans will face Croatia in the quarter finals, and a crunch match against Virgil Van Dijk’s Netherlands side or Lionel Messi’s Argentina side awaits them should they progress.

Liverpool’s number one was in fine form once again, making a number of crucial saves which gave the tournament favourites the foundations to build upon.

The number one made five important saves and will more than likely guarantee him a place in goal for the match against Croatia who beat Japan on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time earlier that day.

Alisson was substituted with ten minutes to go in the game, with third-choice goalkeeper Weverton replacing him.

This meant that Brazil have used all 26 players that were included in Tite’s squad, this is the first time in World Cup history that this has happened.

Brazil are the favourites to go on and win the tournament and Alisson would no doubt play a huge part, especially in the latter stages against top opponents such as Argentina, France, England or Portugal.

However, it’s safe to say Brazil are well off in that department and their defense remains in the safe hands of Alisson.
