Big games ahead as Liverpool stars progress in Qatar

Six out of the seven Liverpool players who went to the Qatar World Cup have progressed into the last 16 of the tournament after good performances in the group stages.

Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Ibou Konate, Alisson Becker and Fabinho will all feature in the knockout stages, whilst Darwin Nunez will return to club duties following Uruguay’s early exit.

Netherlands:

Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk, captained the Netherlands to the top of group A to progress along with Senegal. Ecuador and the hosts Qatar were left eliminated.

The Netherlands will now face USA in the last 16 and will come up against the winners of Argentina v Australia in the Quarter Finals.

England:

Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold both featured for England as they topped group B after wins against Iran and Wales and a draw against USA.

The United States finished second in the group as Iran and Wales were both eliminated.

The Three Lions will now face Senegal in the last 16 on Sunday with winners coming up against the victors of the clash between France and Poland.

France:

Ibou Konate was one of the standout performers for the current world champions as they topped Group D, defeating Australia and Denmark but did lose to Tunisia in matchday three.

France face Poland in the last 16 and could end up playing against England in the quarter finals should both sides progress.

Brazil:

Alisson and Fabinho both featured for Brazil as they finished top of group G, with the Liverpool goalkeeper keeping two clean sheets in two appearances.

Brazil defeated Serbia and Switzerland before losing to Cameroon in the final matchday of the group stages, but finished top nevertheless.

The South Americans have a favourable draw in the knockout stages, facing South Korea in the last 16 then the winners of Croatia and Japan should they progress.
