Calvin Ramsay impresses on full debut

|

Liverpool beat Derby County to move into the next round of the Carabao Cup. The game ended 0-0 and went on to penalties. Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher saved three penalties to help Liverpool progress. During the game, right-back, Calvin Ramsay was one of the stand-out performers.

Liverpool right-back, Ramsay got his full debut in the Carabao Cup game at Anfield against Derby County. The 20-year-old impressed the Anfield faithful and seemed technically and physically ready to play against professional footballers. Ramsay looked very comfortable both on and off the ball. The good thing is that he seemed very comfortable dictating play from right-back.

It is surely too early to say this, but Ramsay does look as comfortable as Trent Alexander Arnold did when he broke onto the scene. Liverpool now has two right backs that are comfortable with the ball at their feet. They are both defenders that have shown that they have the ball control of a midfielder and can play with both feet.

Here is an insight into Calvin Ramsay’s stats in the Carabao Cup game and Derby County:

  • Touches – 131
  • Total Passes – 105 (maximum)
  • Passing Accuracy – 95%
  • Chances Created – 1
  • Shots on Goal – 2
  • Final Third Passes – 14
  • Accurate Long Balls – 3/4
  • Clearances – 1
  • Recoveries – 8

Ramsay completed the maximum number of passes for Liverpool last night. This great performance comes on the back of being recently given his first call-up to the national team of Scotland. It has been a great week for him personally after making his Champions League debut against Napoli followed by the international selection and then a full debut at Anfield.

He did seem happy with his own performance. This kind of performance will reduce the pressure on Jurgen Klopp and also might add some to Trent who has had a very mediocre and lackluster season. Ramsay finished the game with a 6.7 rating on whoscored.com.

This is what Ramsay posted on social media after the win.
