Cody Gakpo is now officially a Liverpool player

Liverpool have confirmed that Cody Gakpo is now officially a Liverpool player following the club’s announcement on their social media platforms.

The 23-year-old joins the club from PSV for a fee of £37million after a deal was agreed between the two clubs hours after Liverpool’s 3-1 victory against Aston Villa in the Premier League in Boxing Day.

Gakpo is now officially a Red after the ‘formalities of his transfer from PSV Eidenhoven were successfully concluded’.

The Netherlands international was unable to be included in Liverpool’s squad for their trip to Brentford as the deal was yet to be completed by the FA and the Premier League.

In hindsight, Jurgen Klopp could have really benefitted from having the forward on the bench as his side fell victim to a 3-1 defeat to the Bees leaving them in 6th place in the Premier League.

Instead, it is expected that Gakpo will make his Liverpool debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday night where a warm welcome to Anfield awaits the youngster.

With the injuries to Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino leaving Klopp without any depth going forward, Gakpo could have a busy start to his Liverpool career.
