Whatever you think of this man and his time at Liverpool, there is no question that he has been desperately unlucky.

Harry Wilson has been at the club since he was a schoolboy, joining up with the Reds’ U9s squad and became a full-time member of the Liverpool academy squad at the age of 15, as per the club’s official website.

He looked destined to play for Liverpool, having featured at every level at our famous Melwood training ground, it just hasn’t worked out the way that we all would have wanted for him.

During this timeframe, he has been on loan four times. Wilson had a spell with Crewe Alexandra during the 2015/16 campaign, where he only made seven first-team appearances. After this, he was sent to Hull City the following season, scoring seven times and providing four assists in just 14 outings, as per TransferMarkt.

Then came his best season to date, two loan spells at Derby County came next which is where people rightly started positively talking about him. Having scored 18 goals in 50 games for the Rams, Wilson deserved his shot in the Premier League. Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t to be with Liverpool.

A stint at Bournemouth ended in relegation last season and found the net seven times, the same year that we won our first league title in 30 years.

Our first-team is almost locked down, and the arrival of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota from Bayern Munich and Wolves has pushed him even further down the pecking order.

Wilson’s performances have earned him 17 caps for Wales which is impressive for a player that is only 23. But he needs regular first-team football and he simply is not going to get that with Liverpool.

In recent weeks, Wilson has been heavily linked with a move to Burnley, with the Clarets offering a fee of around £15m for the free-kick specialist.

Working under Sean Dyche, Wilson will improve and grow into a much better player under the watchful eye of such a disciplined tactician.

For me, it is a move that the player should consider, and would be the best possible outcome for both parties. If he keeps working hard, I am confident that Wilson will get an opportunity with a top-six club again in the future.
