Liverpool fell to defeat last night after a poor display against Brighton and Hove Albion with a 1-0 defeat to Graham Potter’s side, leaving the Reds sat in fourth-spot in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side looked a world away from their best of recent years and failed to build anything on their attacking chances, with Mohamed Salah failing to build on his fine performance against West Ham – as well as the Reds clearly missing fellow winger Sadio ManĂ© with his grit and tenacity in attack.

The Reds were easily found out by Brighton who soaked up the pressure well and managed to nick a goal early on into the first-half, with their counter-press proving effective against a Liverpool team that was attempting to build from the back with a passing game which clearly wasn’t working. The Athletic’s James Pearce shared his thoughts on the result on Twitter after the game, describing the loss as ‘grim’…

To think that Liverpool had gone 68 games and three and a half years without losing a game at Anfield to now having lost back-to-back games at home against Burnley and Brighton over the past ten days is astounding and actually quite daunting in regards to our prospects for this season.

I agree with Pearce that Liverpool got exactly what they deserved, it seemed at times as though the squad didn’t want to create anything or even get a sniff in front of goal and when they did, nothing came of it – it looked as though they were there own worst enemy as even with Brighton’s resilience in defence, we still managed to get through and make our own chances.

Will Liverpool miss out on this season's Premier League title?

Grim is a perfect word to describe the overall feel of that result and I think this has hampered our confidence and hopes against Manchester City on Sunday – which will be a nervy game for me and most likely many other Reds fans.
