Liverpool journalist thinks the Reds should sign this defender from Real Madrid

It is no secret that Liverpool are struggling in defence this season, with options few and far between and two of the clubs most important centre-backs out injured for the remainder of the campaign.

Because of this, we have seen a myriad of defensive options linked with a move to the club, including Real Madrid’s 22-year-old Brazilian Eder Militao, who joined Los Blancos back in the summer of 2019 for £45 million but has fallen down the pecking order as of late and the Spanish club have reportedly made him available for loan this month according to Duncan Castles…

“One player who has been mentioned is Eder Militao, the centre-back at Real Madrid who is out of favour there. Madrid are trying to offload the player, they want ideally to sell. I’m told their asking price is €50 million (£44.5m), but there is the option there of getting Militao on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.”

The Athletic’s Head Liverpool correspondent James Pearce also wagered in on the rumours, with him stating that he thinks Militao would be a good option if he is available but factored in whether the Reds are looking for a short-term fix…

I agree that Militao would be a great option on loan if the Reds were happy to do so – he is evidently talented and there would be no issue playing alongside fellow countryman Fabinho, the only real test will be whether he could climatise to the Premier League quick enough to make an impact before the summer – but there is no telling unless the club were to make the signing.

It seems unfair to rely on youngsters such as Rhys Williams to have to fill the gap in a season where we are trying to retain the Premier League title – so I hope that the club will address the defensive issue this window.
