Jurgen Klopp shortlisted for Manager of the Month

|

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for his good work in November and December.

Klopp will face competition from Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe for the award.

The Reds found good form on either side of the World Cup break, winning four league games out of four.

Firstly, a brace from Mohamed Salah led his side to a 2-1 away victory against Tottenham Hotspur, before defeating Southampton 3-1 at Anfield the following week.

After the World Cup break, Liverpool went on to beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park on Boxing Day before scraping their way to a 2-1 victory against Leicester City at Anfield.

For those highlighting the 3-1 defeat to Brentford as a reason why Klopp shouldn’t be nominated, that result took place in January so is irrelevant for this award.

Hopefully Klopp can get his men to bounce back from that defeat and find the form that served them so well in the months of November and December.

Their next game sees them host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup Third Round before travelling to face Brighton in the Premier League the following weekend.

My personal pick for the award would be Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe, leading them to third position in the league with wins against Southampton, Chelsea and Leicester City before a draw with Leeds United.
