Another transfer link that never seems to go away is that of Memphis Depay joining Liverpool. Depay is a great talent and will surely be a great addition to the Liverpool attack. Jurgen Klopp can exploit his ability to play on the left or down the middle. Klopp has repeatedly shown us that he likes working with attacking players with fluidity in at least two positions across the front line.

Over the recent past, there have been rumours regarding Barcelona and Liverpool exploring the chance of a player swap between Roberto Firmino and Memphis Depay. However, their respective contracts end after this season, and a deal in January could help both clubs ensure that they do not lose either player for free.

Out of all the transfer rumours doing the rounds, this move seems to make a lot more sense than the others. Of course, player-swap deals rarely occur, but that does not mean this particular player-swap idea is not without merit. There is no smoke without fire.

Surely, Firmino’s wage demands will be lesser than Depay’s, while Depay will want to play for a top side where he can see a future for himself. Also, Firmino, like Sadio Mane, has won everything with Liverpool and might be looking for a new challenge, while Depay will be hoping to set his Premier League reputation right after a move to Manchester United did not go well for him.

The possibility of this deal being ‘studied’ in England was first broken by Spanish news outlet Futbol Total via Fanaticos. The news report stated that Firmino would move to Barcelona and no transfer fees would be involved as a part of the deal.

What is your opinion about this potential player swap transfer deal?
