After German outfit Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of RB Leipzig’s French defender Dayot Upamecano on Sunday, the Reds have reportedly turned their interest to his fellow countryman and teammate Ibrahima Konate.

Jurgen Klopp and his team have reportedly made contact with the Leipzig over the future transfer of Konate in the summer according to The Sunday World, with fellow Premier League club’s Manchester United and Chelsea also interested in the 21-year-old French defender.

Konate and Upamecano had established themselves as two of the best young talents in Europe and have proven to be a fantastic partnership in the Bundesliga – however, Upamecano had been viewed as the better defender out of the two but I personally think that Konaté would be a better option for the Reds.

Could Liverpool sign Thiago this summer?

Yes, we need to make a move

No, not with FSG

This season Konaté has a higher percentage of duels and aerial duels won compared to that of Upamecano, with 67% and 86% respectively compared to his teammates 57% and 62% according to the OneFootball app.

With a current market value of £31.50 million according to Transfermarkt, Konate will no doubt cost a pretty penny if the Reds are to make a move for him in the summer but given that they have already made contact with the German club shows they have real intent on bringing the Frenchman to Merseyside in the summer.

There is some that a summer signing of a new defender will be dependant on whether the club decides to activate the option to buy for Ozan Kabak in the summer for just £18 million but that will all depend on how well he can perform before the end of the season – but something tells me that the Reds won’t bring the Turkish international to the club on a permanent deal.

What do you think Liverpool fans, would Konate be a good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
