Liverpool duo play in World Cup matchday two

|

Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk, captained the Netherlands once again in Qatar whilst Jordan Henderson came on as a second half substitute for England.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was again an unused substitute in England’s match against USA.

Van Dijk couldn’t manage to keep his second clean sheet in as many games but still put in a solid display in Netherlands’ 1-1 draw against a fired-up Ecuador side.

Whilst Henderson replaced Jude Bellingham in the 69th minute of England’s 0-0 draw against USA in the 7pm kick off.

Although neither were able to pick up three points, both sides sit top of their group.

Netherlands currently sits on four points from two games, and only above Ecuador based on their FIFA ranking.

However, England sit top of their group slightly more convincingly also on four points from two games but still a point clear of Iran after they defeated Wales 2-0 in the morning kick off.

Both sides will fancy their chances of going deep into the tournament, and there is actually a possibility of the two sides meeting in the Round of 16 should one team win the group whilst the other goes through in second place.

Virgil Van Dijk will definitely fancy his sides chances of topping the group as they face a winless Qatar in their final game of the group stage.

England will have the chance of putting the final nail in Wales’ World Cup coffin as they face their UK rival in their final game of the group stage.
