Mason Mount was offered a new contract by Chelsea right before he left for the World Cup. The English midfielder decided to reject the offer. This was certainly something that a lot of people at the club were shocked by.
There are rumours that Mount might be looking for something new in terms of a football challenge. Liverpool is said to be interested in the midfielder. Given that Liverpool’s density in midfield is lacking, Mount would certainly come in and help reduce the worry. He also ensures that a player with an English background can help satisfy the quota requirements.
According to many, prizing Mount away from Chelsea will be close to impossible. Mount has 18 months left on his current Chelsea contract. Other than Liverpool, Italian giants, Juventus are also interested in getting his signature.
Liverpool has been linked to three of the four English midfielder regulars at the World Cup, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, and Mason Mount. It is obvious that they are not going to sign all three. However, these talented footballers will certainly reduce Klopp’s headache when it comes to team selections going into the next season under potentially new owners.
As revealed by Danny Obeng on Twitter, Brad Friedel said, “Mason Mount is an exceptional player but the only time it would be a no-brainer for Jurgen Klopp is if it works financially for Chelsea and Liverpool.”
