As many Liverpool fans would know, the Reds have been incredible the past couple of years, winning the Champions League and Premier League titles thanks to the performances put in by the team.

Just yesterday, FIFA announced the nominees for the best men’s player of 2020 – and I wasn’t surprised to hear that four Liverpool stars were nominated for the award this year…

Thiago Alcantara, Sadio ManΓ©, Virgil van Dijk, and Mo Salah were all nominated for the award, after all, enjoying impressive seasons at the tail end of the last campaign and so far during the current.

Both ManΓ© and Salah were leading lights up front for the Reds during their Premier League-winning campaign last season, helping the Reds to their first league title in 30 years and their first-ever in the Premier League. This effort was also thanks to the quality and performances from van Dijk in defence, who has helped to transform Liverpool’s backline since joining the club.

The Dutchman has been labeled as one of the best defenders in the world – and this nomination for the FIFA Men’s Best Player award clearly justifies that, with only one other defender in Sergio Ramos being nominated.

New boy Thiago is the fourth and final player on the list and I think it is fair to say that it wasn’t his performances in a Liverpool shirt that earned him the nomination. The Spaniard won the treble with Bayern Munich last season with the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League, cementing himself under Bayern folklore after his near 7-year career with the club.

I think all four of the nominations are warranted and it would be great if one of them won it – even if Thiago was to win I’d still accept it as a win for the Reds even if it was due to his efforts with Bayern.

What do you think Liverpool fans, are you happy with the nominations? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below…
