Liverpool interested in Chelsea midfielder

|

Based on a report in the Spanish media outlet ElNacional.cat, via (onefootball), Jurgen Klopp, and Liverpool want to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer. Klopp believes that the midfielder is still “a world-class star” who would fit the club ethos perfectly.

Many are perplexed by this potential transfer. Kante isn’t the same injury-free player that he once was. The common consensus is that Liverpool is looking at Kante because he will be a free agent in the summer, and that is a transfer that can help them save money to break the bank on Jude Bellingham, who is their number one priority.

Kante made his Chelsea return after a four-month lay-off due to a hamstring injury but is still yet set to feature for the Blues. Kante has only made two appearances for Chelsea this season. Both those games were in the Premier League.

Given all the rumours, this transfer does seem unlikely, given that Kante will be 32 years old before the start of the next season. He also earns a huge amount which could be a stumbling block for FSG, given their wage policies.

Other than Kante, Liverpool has been linked to Bellingham, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and many other midfielders. None of them is expected to join in this January transfer window after Klopp confirmed that Liverpool’s transfer business for this window, in terms of incomings, has concluded with just one purchase in the form of Cody Gakpo.

What do you believe? Should Klopp go for Kante in the summer, or stay away from a player who is well into their 30s? Let us know in the comments section below.
