Liverpool leading the race to sign USA midfielder

|

Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign USA midfielder, Yunus Musah, after his solid performances for the States in the World Cup.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the Reds are leading the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to secure the signing of the 20-year-old before deadline day.

Musah has made 14 appearances for Valencia so far this season, assisting two goals, but many have suggested that the youngster could be the perfect replacement for Gini Wijnaldum as a box-to-box midfielder, which Liverpool have struggled to find since Wijnaldum’s departure in 2020.

Despite being so young, Musah has plenty of experience with 84 appearances for Valencia to his name, as well as 23 caps for the USA first-team already.

The 20-year-old is also familiar with the system in England as he was actually a part of Arsenal’s academy before making a move to Valencia in Spain.

Musah is expected to be a cheaper option compared to the likes of Sofyan Amrabat and Moises Caicedo this window, but is still likely to cost around £20million.

At this point, it feels like Liverpool have been linked with every single midfielder in Europe and I just hope the club doesn’t rush to make a signing and instead ensure that who they are signing is the right person for right now and for the future.
