Liverpool linked to £62m midfielder in player plus cash deal

|

Bizarre transfer stories and Liverpool seem to be synonymous. However, no one can argue that Liverpool is in the middle of a midfield crisis. A bunch of players return from injury, while the rest are either ageing or highly injury-prone.

Their latest midfield acquisition, Arthur Melo, who joined on loan, is also out injured and expected to take at least another week or two to get back to training and then stake a claim to get a few minutes under his belt.

That brings us to some crazy transfer news. It’s like the silly season never ends…

Liverpool is putting a plan together to make a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić in January. This transfer rumour comes from the Italian publication Calciomercato. They report that Liverpool’s centre-back, Joe Gomez, will most likely be a part of a player-plus-cash deal between the two clubs. Crazy!

The 27-year-old Serbian midfielder has been linked with a transfer to England for quite a while now. Liverpool has been touted as a possible destination for him. However, other than the Reds, Manchester United and Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs interested in his midfield services.

Lazio value Milinković-Savić at about £62 million. This transfer fee is said to be too high for any Italian side to make a move for him; hence, a move to another country is on the cards.

Now given the rumoured link to Liverpool, this is a fee that many believe that owner Fenway Sports Group might not shell out, and hence the link of Gomez going the other way with a cash component of about £31 million is the transfer rumour doing the rounds.

This is something that all of us at Vital believe is nothing but transfer speculation and not something that will materialise.
