Liverpool linked with former Real Madrid star on a free transfer

Liverpool have been linked with a possible move for former Real Madrid star, Isco, on a free transfer after failing to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window.

Reports linking him to a move to Merseyside have come from The Liverpool Echo, who also suggested former Ajax midfielder Zakaria Labyad could be considered as a transfer target.

The 30-year-old had his contract terminated by Sevilla after the World Cup break and was expected to link up with former boss, Julien Lopetegui at Wolves.

Wolves instead signed Joao Gomes from Flamengo, leaving Isco without a club.

Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho being in awful form so far this season.

Isco has enjoyed an illustrious career so far, winning five Champions League titles and three La Liga titles during his time at Real Madrid.

However, he never really hit the heights that were expected of him during the early years of his career and has struggled in the later years of his career as well.

Only managing three goals and six assists in club football since the start of the 2020/21 season, his numbers aren’t exactly appealing on the eye to many supporters.

In contrast to his club numbers, his stats for the Spanish national team are exceptional- scoring 12 goals in 38 appearances for his country from midfield.

Isco also would hardly have more legs than the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, which has been the main issue with the ageing and slowing squad.

Both Isco and Labyad are both massively injury prone and is no better in terms of quality than the players Jurgen Klopp already has at his disposal.
