After Sunday afternoon’s devastating result against Manchester City which saw the Reds lose three games on the bounce at Anfield with a 4-1 defeat, leaving them now ten points off of the league leaders.

There was no doubt that at the start of the current campaign, Liverpool were set on retaining their Premier League title and were favourites to win the league ahead of City but the feeling amongst the Reds faithful and many in the footballing world is that Jurgen Klopp’s side has let slip and City now look likely to go on and win the competition, leaving Liverpool with a fight for a top-four finish in what looks to be one of the most hotly contested top four races in recent history.

As stated by The Athletic’s James Pearce, missing out on a Champions League spot could be catastrophic for the Reds’ finances, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

Currently, there are just ten points separating 2nd and 9th place in the league with up to eight teams currently in contention for trying to secure a spot for next season’s Champions League.

Are Liverpool out of the title race?

No

I think Liverpool have all but forgotten about the title race for this season as they know they haven’t done enough to try and make ground after a rough start during the first half of the season but even with the setbacks we have had, some results have just been poor in general with the Reds even managing a 7-2 loss to Aston Villa at the start of the campaign with an almost full-strength team with just Alisson absent and Adrian in goal instead.

This next week gives the Reds a great chance to recharge ahead of an important fixture against Leicester City on Sunday, with Liverpool hoping to build on their previous 3-0 win against the Foxes back in November.

What do you think Liverpool fans, can we forget about the title this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
