Liverpool players ranked at Ballon D’or awards

|

Six Liverpool players along with a former Red found themselves amongst the top 30 players in the world according to the Balon D’or rankings [Eurosport].

Liverpool were the most represented club in the rankings with no team having more than six players representing their side like the Reds.

Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah were all nominated in the top 30 players for the 2022 award with the likes of Alisson and Thiago perhaps unfortunately missing out.

Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane (who joined Bayern Munich in the summer) was nominated and was amazingly ranked the 2nd best player in the world only behind Karim Benzema of Real Madrid.

The Senegalese forward led his country to a triumph at the African Cup of Nations, as well as Liverpool to a FA Cup, a Carabao Cup and a Champions League final.

Mohamed Salah was ranked 5th behind the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Kevin De Bruyne, with the Egyptian perhaps unlucky not to be ranked higher after being the top scorer and top assister in the Premier League last year, winning both domestic cups, and leading his sides to the Champions League and AFCON final.

After Mohamed Salah it was perhaps surprisingly Fabinho that finished second highest out of the Liverpool squad, sitting in 14th place in the rankings.

Then it was Virgil Van Dijk in 16th place, followed by winger Luis Diaz in 17th place after a stunning season with both Porto and Liverpool last term.

Full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, then came in at 22nd position with himself and Van Dijk both being the highest ranked defenders in the world.

New summer signing, Darwin Nunez came in at 25th for his impressive season for SL Benfica in the 21/22 season.
