It’s no surprise that Liverpool needs to strengthen their midfield. Their disappointing season may be attributed to the fact that they have an aging and ineffective midfield to contend for titles.

According to the French newspaper jeunesfooteux.com, Liverpool is interested in signing Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge. The 24-year-old Norwegian joined Sheffield United from KRC Genk for a fee of £23 million in 2020 while the club was playing its football in the Premier League. Upon relegation, Berge remained with the club at the end of the 2020/2021 season.

Berge has scored four goals and assisted on three others this season in the Championship. This showcases that he still has what it takes to fight at the highest level.

However, due to financial issues, Sheffield United’s recent transfer restriction may force them to sell their most valued assets, including Berge. According to the report, Chelsea is also interested in the midfielder, who is valued at roughly £16 million.

Berge has previously expressed his wish to play for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, He did so during an interview with the Norway-based TV2, saying, “Playing at Anfield is a dream for everyone in the world, and not least for Norwegians. Liverpool is the best team and has the most fans, so I would certainly like to play at Anfield as often as possible.”

Besides Berge, Liverpool has been in touch with several high-profile players, including Jude Bellingham, Sofyan Amrabat, and Enzo Fernandez. However, Berge is more in line with the type of deal that FSG, Liverpool’s owners, would make.
