Last night saw Liverpool finally return to winning ways against Tottenham Hotspur in London, with the Reds running out 3-1 victors after a fine performance that took the Reds back into fourth spot in the table.

Our results as of late in the Premier League were far from the standard that Jurgen Klopp’s side can perform at, with them failing to win a game this month but thankfully, last night the Reds managed to turn their fortunes around with a great win against Jose Mourinho’s in-form Spurs side.

The game started well, with end to end stuff from both sides but it was Liverpool who looked on top for much of the first half, with Spurs having to play the long ball for most of the game due to how high the Reds line was. Liverpool were building from the back and despite Tottenham’s best efforts to do so also, they couldn’t manage the time on the ball to build up a significant attack due to Klopp’s signature press.

Liverpool took the lead just before the break after building well throughout the first 45, as well as the luck in Heung-min Son’s early goal being ruled offside by a fraction. Roberto Firmino managed to kick things off for the Reds after a wonderful ball across goal from Sadio Mané which left Firmino with a simple tap in with an empty goal with the Reds going into half time with a crucial lead.

The start to the second half was perfect, with Trent Alexander-Arnold getting Liverpool’s second just minutes into the second 45 with a great rebound off of a Hugo Lloris save which gave the youngster some much-needed confidence after some below-par performances and I’m delighted for him. Trent is easily one of my favourites in the squad and it was horrible to see him struggling – but last night was a dream for the 22-year-old with him also managing an assist for Liverpool’s third but not before Tottenham caused a scare.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg scored a dream goal just minutes after Liverpool’s second with what was quite possibly the best first goal for Spurs he could have dreamed of – smashing the ball on the edge of the box across his body and etching the ball into the right side netting and getting one back for the North London club.

As mentioned, Trent didn’t take long to put one on a plate for Mané with a beautiful cross straight into the winger’s path in the box, albeit it was a poor piece of defending from Tottenham’s Joe Rodon, Mané did a great job to get the ball under control and smash it into the roof of the net from 6 yards out.

It was great to see Liverpool return to form the way they did – the football was fluid and progressive and in defence we looked fantastic given that Joel Matip had to come off at half time due to an ankle injury with Nat Phillips taking his place alongside Jordan Henderson at the back with the pair impressing massively.

For me, it was clear from the off that Liverpool was going to win the game, especially with how committed the Liverpool squad were in the press with Spurs simply out of ideas after 20 minutes and simply have to try and limit the Reds as much as they could going forward.

The win sets Liverpool up perfectly for a crunch game against West Ham on Sunday, with the London club just two points behind us in fifth.
