Liverpool U18s are through to the fifth round of this season’s FA Youth Cup after dismantling Derby County 5-2…

Liverpool’s U18 side were in impressive from on Wednesday night, overcoming Derby County in the FA Youth Cup to book a home tie with Birmingham City in round five.

The young Reds, who remarkably drew 5-5 when the two sides previously met in the league in November, made the perfect start at the Deva Stadium, taking a 5th minute lead through Jerome Sinclair after a Harry Wilson free-kick had struck the post.

A period of Rams pressure followed, featuring a Charles Vernam equaliser and a missed penalty, before Sinclair restored Liverpool’s lead shortly before the half hour mark following great work by Sheyi Ojo down the flank.

The visitors continued to threaten in a pulsating tie but their hopes of drawing level once more were undone in the second half when Wilson sent a brilliant free-kick past Eric Behrens.

Three become four in the 67th minute as Spanish attacker Sergi Canos fired home after being set up by Sinclair.

Wilson notched number five by showing Derby how to net from the spot; the Welsh international winning the penalty himself with a slaloming run into the box.

Despite the goal coming in the 89th minute, there was still time left for Derby to register a consolation, again via Vernam.

The visit of Birmingham in the next round is likely to take place at Anfield later this month.
