Liverpool were on the verge of signing this Man City star

|

Once upon a time, in 2018 Jurgen Klopp was desperate to sign a fast, tricky, inverted winger to come into his side.

That ended up welcoming a certain iconic Mohamed Salah to Anfield, but things could’ve been very different.

Liverpool were in fact very interested in bringing current Manchester City winger, Riyad Mahrez to the club after the Algerian had revealed his desire to leave his club at the time- Leicester City.

Ultimately, Pep Guardiola managed to get his hands on the tricky winger but it’s fair to say that things worked out well for both sides in hindsight.

However, last night was one of those nights where Klopp will have wished that Mahrez was wearing a Liverpool shirt.

The Algerian put in a stunning display as City knocked Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup in a 3-2 victory, with Mahrez rounding off his performance with a fantastic goal two minutes into the second half.

It’s a shame that Mahrez hasn’t always got the game time that he deserves in a Man City shirt, he is an outstanding player that would walk into the other 19 teams in the league.

Perhaps he needs a move similar to what Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus made in the summer, and wouldn’t it be crazy to think of Mahrez making a shock move to Anfield.
