Man City 3-2 Liverpool: Player Ratings

|

Liverpool missed out on a spot in the Carabao Cup Quarter Finals following a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Here is how we think Jurgen Klopp’s men performed on the night:

Caoimhin Kelleher- 7

Despite conceding three goals, the Irishman couldn’t really do much against any of the attempts. The youngster did make a number of good saves against the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden, especially in the second half.

James Milner- 6

The former City man managed to create an assist for Fabio Carvalho’s goal but after that struggled defensively, especially against Cole Palmer.

Joel Matip- 6

Quite good on the ball but still looked shaky defensively. Matip shouldn’t have let Haaland get on the wrong side of him for the opening goal.

Joe Gomez- 6

Ended up playing at right-back after James Milner went off injured. Was solid defensively but offered very little final product when going forward.

Andy Robertson- 5

Poor performance from the Scotsman. Didn’t get near enough to Riyad Mahrez at all throughout the game and squandered a big chance to make the score 3-3 but couldn’t keep his composure.

Stefan Bajcetic- 5

Although the Spaniard proved his ability on the ball, in the end he was out-ran and out-classed by the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan, leaving him on a yellow card and substituted at half-time.

Harvey Elliott- 6

The youngster looked comfortable on the ball and was quite progressive but just not quick enough with the ball. Elliott also didn’t offer enough support to young Bajcetic behind him either, who ended up being left really vulnerable.

Thiago Alcantara- 6

The Spaniard kept the ball ticking for his side by doing the simple things right. However, he was just missing that different dimension to set up regular attacks to the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.

Mohamed Salah- 6

The Egyptian wasn’t too involved in the game, but still managed to get his name on the scoresheet.

Darwin Nunez- 6

In contrast to Salah, the 23-year-old was regularly involved and had plenty of chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Nunez did manage to get himself an assist as he set up Salah for his early second half goal.

Fabio Carvalho- 6

The youngster scored a first half equaliser with a tidy finish, but on the whole struggled to compete physically with the Man City defenders and also kept phasing in and out of the game.

Jurgen Klopp will now turn his attention to the Reds’ match against Aston Villa in the Premier League at Villa Park on Boxing Day.
