Liverpool’s season so far… (Part 2)

|

With Liverpool not playing another domestic game of football until the 19th of December, we are taking a look at Liverpool’s season so far.

In the last part we looked at the month of August, which included a mixed bag of results and performances but in this part we are looking at how September went for the Reds.

September-

On the back of their victory over Newcastle during the week, Liverpool travelled across Stanley Park to face Everton at Goodison Park. Both teams had big opportunities, but neither could capitalize, with the game ending 0-0.

In most seasons, a point away to one of your biggest rivals isn’t the end of the world but Klopp will have been desperate for three points following his side’s patchy start to the season.

After a frustrating start to the Premier League season, Liverpool had to turn their focus to the Champions League as they faced Napoli in the first matchday of the Group Stages.

This ended up being one of Liverpool’s worst performances of the season so far, as they got smashed 4-1 by a Napoli side who made the game look like men vs boys. 3-0 down at half time and 4-0 down before the 50th minute, this was a side to Jurgen Klopp’s team that we had barely ever seen since the German took over in 2015.

Luis Diaz managed to pull back one consolation goal but was nowhere near enough to paper over the huge cracks in Liverpool’s defence.

The Reds then faced Ajax in Matchday two of the group stages with three points a must-need after their awful start against Napoli.

Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead before Ajax’s Kudus equalising in a quick response. The game hung in the balance all the way up until the 90th minute when an unlikely goalscorer in Joel Matip headed the ball in from a corner to send Anfield crazy.

This left the month of September in a very similar way to August. With Jurgen Klopp’s side looking good in spells but overall, very poor especially compared to their usual high standards that the German has set himself.
